One of my New Year’s resolution is practicing more patience. This applies to all parts of my life, but in the kitchen it means finally taking the time out to utilize my proofing baskets and make more bread at home. I think I’ll start with a San Francisco classic, Tartine bread!
- I could snack on these all year long: Hawaiian coffee sugar crusted almonds.
- This is the most innovative use of my favorite vegetable: Mashed potato, cheddar and chive waffles.
- Will cauliflower be the kale of 2014? (this will be on my to-do list next year)
- Ice cream sandwiches were big this year, but no one did them as elegantly as Roost.
- I love adult renditions of the s’more, but this one with homemade lavender marshmallow is quite possibly my favorite.
- Another New Year’s resolution– use more rhubarb.
- If the trending paleo diet involves Samoa donuts, I’m in.
- I fell in love with this Cardamom-Coconut Cuba Libre the moment I saw it. Can’t wait for Todd to make me one in 2014!

How funny. I was perusing your site, and saw my loaf of bread and said ‘hey, that bread looks familiar’. lol. xoxo Francis-Olive
naturally like your web site but you have to take a look at the spelling on quite a few of your posts.
A number of them are rife with spelling issues and
I to find it very bothersome to inform the truth however I’ll
certainly come back again.
Ha! Epicurious.com proclaimed 2013 “the year of cauliflower.” I wonder if they were just a little ahead in their prognostication?
Or maybe I’m late to the cauliflower party 😉
Thanks so much for the shout-out, Karen! I bought myself a proofing basket and Tartine Book No. 3 this Christmas, so I’ve made a similar bread-baking resolution. (: Happy New Year!
Oh that book is on my wish-list– hope it’s good!
I love cauliflower, so I hope it’s the veggie of 2014 😉
Yum! I’ll have to try some of these 🙂

I’m with you on the rhubarb – underrated for sure!
There is something so satisfying about making your own bread. I get such a feeling of accomplishment.
