Valentine’s Day Cocktail

February 13, 2014
Drinks,Recipes

This cocktail is my gift to you. Feel free to do with it what you like. Make it for someone you love, after a romatic home cooked meal. Mix it up for your lips, and your lips alone, curled up with a book. Pass it on to an old drinking buddy, or that new special somebody. Share it with your best friends, or even random Facebook friends. Because whether or not you celebrate Valentines day, one thing’s for sure, February 14th is a great day for a cocktail.

Valentine's Day Cocktail

Servings: 1 cocktail

INGREDIENTS

For the cocktail

For the homemade grenadine

INSTRUCTIONS

For the grenadine

  1. Add pomegranate juice, sugar, and pomegranate molasses into a small saucepan over very low heat. Stir continuously until sugar dissolves, immediately remove from heat and let cool. Set aside.

For the cocktail

  1. Add the egg white and the lemon juice to your shaker. When making cocktails that contain egg whites it's always good practice to add the egg whites first. That way, if a little yolk accidentally falls in, you can start over without wasting the other ingredients.
  2. Add your homemade grenadine, Aperol, Amaro Montenegro, and gin.
  3. Then dry-shake (shake without ice) for 10 full seconds. This helps the egg white become super frothy, adding to the creamy texture of the drink. Briefly set aside.
  4. Add ice to a standard old fashioned glass.
  5. Once your glass is prepped, fill your shaker with ice and shake vigorously for a full 30 seconds.
  6. Double strain over ice into your old fashioned glass.
  7. At this point the cocktail is complete. Simply garnish with freshly grated cinnamon over the cocktail, or get festive and make a heart-shaped stencil out of construction paper to use to grate your cinnamon.

Any advice/tips for the cinnamon heart? Haven’t been able to keep the shape?

Yes, I’m also hoping to get some tips on this. What did you use to grate the cinnamon stick?

Hi! Just tried this with my boyfriend and it came out absolutely perfect! I made him this one, and then I added Fee Brothers original bitters and it gave the cinnamon even more power. Thanks so much, and enjoy the weekend!

this is gorgeous and I love the step by step photos

Happy Valentines day to you too

todd this is brilliant! i can’t believe you chiseled a heart-shaped ice cube…so impressed 🙂

Happy Valentine’s Day Todd and Karen :)! This drink looks pretty spectacular. Love the heart stencil.

Thank you for the kind sentiments Brandon!! Hope you had a wonderful v-day as well 🙂

So, I can just bring this recipe into my local craft cocktail joing and ask them to do it. Right? Ok, then! This sounds and looks divine.

I am in awe of this drink! It is so preeeeeeeetty! I would LOVE to have one (or 3) of these tomorrow with my Valentine!

I can’t believe you chiseled a heart-shaped ice cube – that is too awesome. And thank you for giving instructions on making grenadine, I can’t wait to try that. These are just lovely, and I can imagine how well those flavors work together – bitter, tangy, floral and aromatic. Mmmm…

Thanks Alanna! Let’s just say the heart cube took a bit of experimenting 😉

This is SO cute! I love that you and Karen are big into mixing up cocktails and as I’m a bit of a novice at it. Loved picking up the tip of making your own stencil for some cocktail art! Also, this looks divine!! x
