Old Cuban

Even on a crisp, blustery autumn evening there’s always time for a rum cocktail or two at my house. The Old Cuban is an elegant, and dare I say sophisticated libation, created by Audrey Saunders of Pegu Club fame. Sweet and sour notes are celebrated in a way that rum fans knows and love. Some call it a contemporary classic, but I just call it cocktail perfection.

So simple but so delicious! Thanks for sharing this recipe. Do you have any ideas about what types of food this cocktail might pair well with? Always looking for dinner party ideas… Thank you!

i’m simple-minded, and am confused by the pictures-where the instructions say to pour into a filled coupe, there’s a picture of a measuring cup with what looks like plain dark rum. Is there a step missing, perhaps, or do I just need extra tutoring? Thank you. In the meantime, my coupe is chilling in anxious anticipation…

Thanks, Todd. I now know what to do with the rum sitting on my shelf. This looks delicious!

Did someone say rum?! I live on an island where rum is cheaper than water, so you’re speaking my language! Thanks for sharing this recipe. I can’t wait to try it (and I have plenty of rum to spare)!

Umm…hello, can I come visit, Bre?!! 😛 j/k thanks for your kind words. I know you’ll be happy with this one. Give it a try for sure – you have no excuse.

When I saw the name on this cocktail I thought you had resurrected my junior high music teacher, Senor Vazquez. *SO* glad to find this drink. It looks stunning, and after this World Series game where the Giants sucked big time, I’m wishing I had one right now!

Wow, I don’t know what to say about that one Homer. BTW, how about those Giants now?

This cocktail is pure perfection! Also, you should totally host a photography retreat and teach me how to take pictures like this. Stunning as always.

Ashley, you just made my day!! THANK YOU!! I don’t think you need any lessons whatsoever from me. xo

I don’t think I’ve ever had a Old Cuban before?! Ahh! Need to remedy that! This drink is beautiful (as always) Todd!

oh wow! rum and sparkling wine… i’ve never heard of this combo, but i’m book marking it for the upcoming family holiday gatherings!

Omg Jessica, yes, do it. It’s really such an elegant combo. Audrey Saunders knocked it out of the park with this one. Maybe even for New Years?

Magical. Takes me back to my time in Cuba. Very well executed my friends! Looks delicious!!! phenomenal work as always, so creative on the curation tip, and the photos always blow me away. Next Cuban concoctions I request a libre and a mojito (and I’m not talkin’ this American bastardized crap with pomegranate etc … let’s do the real deal good n’ proper!). Anyways, thanks for making my morning with this! xo Viva Cuba!

Thanks for stopping by, Adam!! I agree, mojitos are always in order 😉

Couldn’t agree more. The Old Cuban is definitely cocktail perfection. I can’t wait to try this at home!
